      31 Oct 2013

    Category : Education

When exam time approaches, anxiety, stress and fear of failure are some of the common feelings faced by most students in the UK. As panic levels start to rise, concentration starts falling and memory is adversely affected. Read on the following tips to beat exam blues and excel instead:

Stay calm: it is natural to get overly stressed when you see the exam paper. It is important to close your eyes and relax for a minute before you start solving the paper. This will help you recollect the answers and write in a calm and composed manner.

Take your time: Some students get panicked when they look at other students answering questions at the speed of light. It is important to take your time while writing the answers and ensure that you have reviewed each question before you submit your paper.

Smart studying is important: if you are participating in a tough or a challenging exam, it is natural to have less time and more syllabus. The only way to combat this problem is to study in a systematic and smart manner and prioritize all the elements of the syllabus.

Exercise is healthy: You might feel like being locked up in your room before the exams and not going out at all. However, it is nice to get some fresh air and exercise a little a day or two before your examination. Oxygen helps your brain, memory and concentration.

Don’t memorise, understand the basics: if you want to do well in competitive exams, you can’t just memorise the answers. You must comprehend the subject and the fundamentals so that you can apply it to the most complex questions and excel in your paper.

Exams can be stressful for students as the pressure of performing well is always high. It is important to eat well, sleep well and lead a normal life during exams so that you can concentrate during the paper and excel with flying colours.
